Ending child food poverty

Welcome to Help4Nam!

Help4Nam is a community organisation and registered charity set up by a team of Namibian expats living in the UK. Our aim is to raise enough funds to purchase and provide emergency food provisions to help stop hunger in children (and their families) who live within underprivileged communities in Namibia.

We operate a food bank network within 3 specific communities: Windhoek, Rehoboth and Okahandja. Whereby families can access emergency food and toiletry supplies when they are in crisis, struggling to cope financially and unable to feed their children due to unemployment, ill health or other socio-economic constraints.

At Help4Nam we believe it is unacceptable for:

  • Children to go to bed and to school hungry,

  • Families on low income not being able to afford the basic food essentials,

  • Parents having to skip meals to feed their children.

As an independent, non-profit charity, we rely solely on donations from the public and grant funding in order to reach our goal of reducing hunger amongst children in Namibia.

  • Improving Education

Improve education by improving learning outcomes when children can concentrate better on a full stomach.

  • Improving Health & Hygiene

Improve health & hygiene by preventing the need for medication to be taken on an empty stomach and providing nutritionally balanced parcels.

  • Reducing Crime

Reduce crime by preventing it from consideration as the only option to provide for your family.

  • Thrift Shop

To generate our own income and become more financially independent, we would like to set up a charity thrift shop selling second-hand , pre-loved children’s clothes, toys, books, stationery and school uniforms. The shop will operate as a retail business with all the proceeds going directly towards funding the food bank.

  • Facilitate Employment

The majority of our beneficiaries are unemployed. By establishing a food bank network and obtaining the necessary funding to do so, we can provide employment and/or facilitate employment opportunities.

  • Grow Food

Our long term vision is to grow our own food as well as empower our beneficiaries to be able to grow their own food. We would like to encourage farming in a way which is both environment friendly and self-sustainable.

What’s new….

It's that time of year again when we prepare for our 3rd Annual Hospital Christmas Party for the children at the Katutura hospital in Windhoek .

Children are at the heart of our charity and as part of our Christmas programme, we have been fortunate enough to host a Christmas party at the Katutura Hospital in Windhoek for them for the last 2 consecutive years. This year, we would like to spread some festive cheer again to the children with at the hospital on Sunday 15 December 2024.

We aim to provide about 100 children with a visit from Santa who, with the help of our volunteers, will present the children with a gift – a dignity pack consisting of essential toiletry items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, facecloth, a healthy treat, pre-prepared lunch packs and some colouring/puzzle books to help keep them occupied during their time recovering at the hospital. These items will be gifted to the children by Help4Nam on behalf of our generous sponsors and donors, who mainly consist of private individuals and local businesses/organisations who wish to contribute towards this worthy cause.

We ask for your assistance to help us make the party possible!

Please email us on help4nam@gmail.com for more information or to pledge your sponsorship.
