Our Projects

Project: Annual Christmas Party at Katutura State Hospital children’s ward

Help4Nam hosts a Christmas party for the children at the Katutura State Hospital ward in partnership with various private companies and individuals who wish to make a contribution. In 2022, we were supported by Nammed Medical Insurance and in 2023, CIC Trade Promoters, PicknPay Supermarket and Namibia Dairies all made generous donations. Together, we provide food, drinks, a Christmas tree and a Santa to visit the children and hand out a gift bag consisting of a small treat and toothbrushes, toothpaste, wash cloth and toiletry items. These are the essential toiletry items needed by the children which cannot be provided by the parents. The hospital does also not always have the budget to provide these items for the children. Our team try to put smiles on the faces of the children who are all very sick. The mothers and nurses are also very happy to have us all there ; spreading some much needed festive cheer! Here is a link to the video published by The Namibian Newspaper reporter who attended the 1st event.

We would love to be able to host a party again for them this year. We understand that there may now be more than 90 children on the ward as sadly many of them are abandoned at the hospital and some cannot be discharged due to either the poverty situations at home or they are orphaned.

Project: Gondwana Care Trust’s Back-to-school Christmas Bag Project

As children in the UK prepare for the start of an exciting new school year, we at Help4Nam start preparing for Back to school for the children in Namibia, which for them, is in January every year.

The start of an academic year is usually an exciting time for the children and teachers but not as exciting for many parents who struggle to make ends meet and simply cannot afford the costs associated with keeping children in school. Although government education in Namibia is free, schools operate on a very tight budget and simply cannot provide some of the essential supplies that learners need. The financial burden thus falls heavily on the parents and guardians to provide essential items such as stationery, books, school uniform, shoes and food.

That is why Help4Nam have approached the Gondwana Care Trust to request their support to help us provide essential stationery supplies to families most in need as part of their Back-to-school Christmas Bag Project. This amazing project helps encourage the children to return to school with confidence for the next academic year, equipped with stationery and a bag. Gondwana's target for 2024 is to distribute 5 000 Bags at Christmas to reach children and schools all across Namibia, even in the most rural communities.

We ask for your assistance to help them reach that goal.

By sponsoring bag(s) at just N$300 (£13) each you can help make a significant difference in the lives of children that are most in need. All bags can be purchased directly through Gondwana's partner online store,

The Narrative.

Project: School food parcel distribution

We distribute food parcels consisting of essential toiletries and non-perishable food items directly to parents at schools. We piloted this project with the Gammams Primary School in Khomasdal, Windhoek and work closely with the school Principal and Life Skills teacher to identify the families at the school that are most vulnerable to poverty and hunger. We have so far been able to allocate at least 20% of each of our monthly distribution cycles via the school. We would like extend this project to more schools and do more parcels per distribution cycle but that is dependent on the availability of funds.

Project: Sponsor a day at a children’s soup kitchen

We continue to help vulnerable communities in need in Namibia with our ‘Sponsor a day at a children’s soup kitchen’ initiative.

Does your organisation have Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals ?

For a one-off sponsorship fee of N$4,000 they can feed up to 300-350 children for a day. You and your team will of course have the option to come along for the day, meet the children and see first-hand the difference your generosity makes! Not only is it a unique way for local businesses to give back to the community, it helps us work together to meet the increasing need for food within the poorer communities in Okahandja, Rehoboth, Groot Aub and Windhoek.

Project: Ambassadors for Good

Ambassadors for Good (AfG) is an employee volunteering programme that gives Anglo American and De Beers Group employees the chance to use their skills to help their communities and good causes that they really care about, backed by funding from the Anglo American Foundation.

The launch event in June 2021 saw ambassadors and their partner organisations come together to find out more about what to expect from the programme and get ready to begin implementing their projects. We are immensely proud and very excited to announce that; for the second consecutive year, Help4Nam had been selected to be part of this empowering programme! This will allow our trustees to learn and further develop their skills and enable us to continue to help vulnerable communities in need in Namibia.

The grant fund of £5,000 received for the project went directly towards 300 food parcels distributed via our network from January to June 2022.

The grant fund received for 2022, went towards funding our ‘Building Forever’ Project of establishing a community food bank in Windhoek as well as various other activities whereby we supported similar charity organisations with their local feeding schemes and distributing food parcels within their communities.

Project: Building Forever

For the first 2 years, our focus was to raise funds which enabled us to distribute emergency food parcels to households in vulnerable communities across 3 regions in Central Namibia. The objective for 2023/2024 is to set up and establish a community food bank with distribution facilities and efficient supply chain management capabilities to operate from. This will help us to deliver a better service and impact on more people. Food banks don’t only act as food storage and distribution depots but also help people to get connected to other essential support and services that would help them to avoid relying on food bank services for too long.

Hunger knows no border and is a challenge in both high- and low-income nations. It is widely recognised that there will always be a need for food bank services for different people at different times in their lives when they struggle to feed the children, have to skip meals and go to bed hungry due to changes in personal circumstances or socio-economic situations beyond their control. Help4Nam would like to continue to be that beacon of hope to such families.

Project: Food Drive - Public appeal for food donations

On 29 September 2022, we became registered as a charity in Namibia under the name of HFN Charity Organisation (non-profit association incorporated under Section 21). Reaching this important milestone, encouraged us to go out and appeal to the Namibian public for food donations. Thanks to our main supplier, Metro Hyperstore in Kleine Kuppe, Windhoek, who very kindly agreed to support our appeal by hosting our first food drive appeal at the store in March 2023.

It was a very successful day with a whopping 2 trolleys full of food donations received from shoppers that day. We are very grateful to Metro and the generous public who were willing to pay for a few extra items in their baskets to donate to our food bank.

With the donations received, we were able to put together another 20 food parcels which went to beneficiaries in both Windhoek and Rehoboth.

We are happy to still accept donations of food and toiletry items.

Please Email us to arrange a collection.

Project: German Embassy Micro Project- Covid Emergency Response

We partnered with a non-profit organisations King’s Daughter’s Organisation (KDO) based in Okuriyangava, Katutura who supports and assists former sex workers by educating the women and girls on the dangers of sex work and providing them with faith-based rehabilitation, counselling, support groups and practical help such sourcing further assistance and issuing them with food parcels, when possible. Many of their beneficiaries are HIV positive and have young children to raise. The organisation does a lot of work to ensure that these women and young girls remain encouraged to live a healthy and meaningful life with the disease and continue to take their medication within their antiretroviral therapy (ART).

We are grateful to the German Embassy in Namibia who provided EURO 10,300 from their micro project fund to support a KDO and Help4Nam food bank distribution project. We are very proud to have jointly distributed 500 emergency food parcels during the Covid19 pandemic from September to December 2021.

As we are a small charity, we endeavour to keep our overheads as low as possible and in some instances, expenses incurred are personally covered by the trustees, so that your donations can go directly to the intended projects and charity activities. Spending is strictly monitored and managed by the UK trustees. All visits to Namibia are self- financed and no charitable funds are used for this purpose.

If you would like to support us by making a financial contribution, please consider making a donation to us.
